naMec

Asian, Nomadic Cultures, Mobility and Environment Study Center - Mongolian Culture Center

naMec is an interuniversity research center established by the University of Florence (Department of SAGAS) and the University of Parma (Department of DUSIC). It is devoted to the study of nomadic cultures, mobility, and the environment, with Asia as its primary field of inquiry, while also extending its scope to other regions through a comparative approach. The Center fosters interdisciplinary research, the development of academic networks, international collaboration, and cultural initiatives, and it also hosts the Mongolian Culture Center.

The “Mongolian Studies” Collection is online. The University of Florence Humanities Library provides access to a collection on Mongolia, nomadism, mobility, environment and related fields.

naMec: inauguration of the Parma Headquarters. On 3 December 2024, the University of Parma inaugurated naMec’s second location at the Borgo Carissimi complex.

naMec: inauguration of the Florence Headquarters. On 19 April 2024, the University of Florence inaugurated naMec, Italy’s first interuniversity centre dedicated to Mongolia and nomadic cultures.
